Becoming a student of a top foreign university is a dream for many. Whether it is for an undergraduate programme, a master's degree, or a PhD, everyone dreams of striding into their dream university replete with erudite faculty and motivated students from varied cultures and countries. Be updated

This is one of the key things while applying. Keep checking college websites regularly and keep yourself updated with application timelines - when applications go live, and when are the deadlines, also keep an eye out for the and document requirements. For example, many students did not know that universities did not accept the Covishield vaccine, they took the vaccine and realised it too late. Do not let negligence come between you and your dream university. Independent consultancy services like ours are very useful as we are always updated with the right and relevant information. Also we aren’t contractually obliged to talk about a set of universities - we are only answerable to you, so no vested interest or hidden agendas. Applying early is quite advantageous; there are more chances of you getting in, if there is a problem with the documentation there is plenty of time to sort it out, and you have enough time to apply for a visa. Visas to countries like the UK, Canada and Europe take a lot of time, hence applying well in advance reduces anxiety. Most university applications abroad begin 13 months in advance, this means that for August 2023 intake, applications are due to open in less than 30 days!

Have a plan B

Apply to many universities and have your options open. Despite how discouraging it may sound, people do not always get into their dream university, and for that, you need to apply to various universities, keep your mind open and have a plan B. We help you curate a comprehensive plan and priority list of universities keeping the pros and cons and your requirements in mind. Always remember there are at the minimum 8 - 10 amazing universities no matter what you wish to study - so maximise your applying options rather than minimising them!

How to apply?

The actual application form can be accessed via university portals for Masters applicants. Whereas for undergrads usually a common portal is present like the Coalition Application, the Common Application (Both for US based unis), the OUAC application (For Canada), or the UCAS for UK unis. To apply for an undergraduate programme in the USA, you need to write an SAT or the ACT examination. Whereas countries like Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain have special eligibility criteria for some universities, while some programs like Law or Medicine in the UK and Europe will have entrance examinations for admissions, hence doing thorough research is important. In addition to program applications there are bound to be applications for Scholarship and Financial Aid that need to be done in a timely manner as well. We at Paramount Global declutter and streamline the application process for you!

Documentation

Top universities are very particular about documentation and do not even look at the application if all the documents are not submitted. Make sure you have all the papers collected from your previous educational institutions well in advance. Documentation list does change depending on the university and country. Below we are listing out the 3 most important documents regardless of where or at what level you are applying:

  • Resume/CV. A CV is a ready reckoner which gives relevant info about you at a glance. For Masters it's almost always 1 page, for undergrad it can run into 2 pages! Make sure it is strategically made and strong. Some universities also want your extracurriculars mentioned along with your work experience. Sometimes a resume is a make or break factor, so make sure your resume is eye-catching and out of the box.
  • Statement of Purpose (SoP)/ College Essay: Applicants applying for the master's programme have to write a compelling and cogent Statement of purpose which can range from 500 to 2000 words! For the undergraduate programme usually specific university essays need to be answered. A statement of purpose must convey how you stand out, what you will be able to offer to the university, how the program you are applying to will be beneficial for your growth and career, and why you are the ideal candidate. It is the only place where you will be expressing yourself in your own words - so make sure it’s eminently readable and engaging. Paramount’s bespoke essay editing services engage with you in a granular manner with discussions and multiple edits to make sure that the best version of your SoP or Essay reaches the university.
  • Letters of recommendation (LoR): An LoR or a letter of recommendation is another thing almost all universities abroad look for. It is like a testimonial and increases credibility. You should ask your college or high school teachers, or even your superiors at work for an LOR. We at Paramount help with drafts as part of our service.
